Promoting the rights of people with disability, who require a companion, to fair ticketing at events and venues

Congratulations to Event Cinemas, our 2016 Affiliate of the Year!

Event Cinemas was recognised as the 2016 Companion Card Affiliate of the Year for its outstanding service and commitment to people with disability at a special presentation in December.

This occasion also marked the 10th anniversary of the Companion Card Program in Western Australia.

National Disability Services WA State Manager Julie Waylen presented the award to Event Cinemas Business Manager George Mooney at a celebratory event at Event Cinemas Innaloo.

“We’re delighted to award Event Cinemas, who have been affiliated with the program for ten years, with this honour as voted by our cardholders,” Ms Waylen said.

Guests enjoyed cinema snacks during a Gold Class screening of Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.

“It’s an honour to be nominated by Companion Cardholders for this award,” Mr Mooney said.

“We’re dedicated to making Event Cinemas as accessible to as many people as possible. This includes accepting the Companion Card to ensure people with disability and their carers, who do a remarkable job in our community, can enjoy a great cinema experience.”

Since 2006, thousands of West Australians with disability have been able to access a broad range of venues, events and activities, promoting the rights of people with disability to fair ticketing and making community access more affordable.

The program has grown to include more than 12,000 cardholders and more than 700 affiliated Western Australian businesses which provide tickets free of charge for cardholders.
